Institute of Eminence (IoE) scheme

The scheme grants the status of Institute of Eminence (IoE) to select public and private institutions, enhancing global academic and research standards. Public institutions receive up to ₹1,000 crore funding and both categories gain significant academic, administrative, and financial autonomy.
- Aim: To enable 10 institutions each from the public and private category to have world class academic & research facilities and grant them the status of IoE.
- Benefits to IoEs:
- Government will provide funding upto ₹1,000 crore to public institutions, for private institutions no financial support.
- Significant amount of autonomy in academic, administrative & financial matters has been provided under the regulatory framework to these institutions.
- IoEs are allowed to set up campuses abroad after receiving no objection certificates from Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Norms and standards of the off shore campus shall be the same as that maintained on the main campus for similar courses.
- IoEs are also permitted to start off new campus centres, with a maximum of three in five years and not more than one in an academic year.
