Overview

The scheme grants the status of Institute of Eminence (IoE) to select public and private institutions, enhancing global academic and research standards. Public institutions receive up to ₹1,000 crore funding and both categories gain significant academic, administrative, and financial autonomy.

  • Aim: To enable 10 institutions each from the public and private category to have world class academic & research facilities and grant them the status of IoE. 
  • Benefits to IoEs: 
    • Government will provide funding upto ₹1,000 crore to public institutions, for private institutions no financial support.
    • Significant amount of autonomy in academic, administrative & financial matters has been provided under the regulatory framework to these institutions.
      • IoEs are allowed to set up campuses abroad after receiving no objection certificates from Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs. 
      • Norms and standards of the off shore campus shall be the same as that maintained on the main campus for similar courses. 
      • IoEs are also permitted to start off new campus centres, with a maximum of three in five years and not more than one in an academic year.
