Proposals for Cessation of Hostilities

Ahead of the proposed April 5 talks between the Kuki Zo and Meitei groups, significant developments have emerged, instigated by the Kuki-Zo leadership of Kangpokpi district, under the aegis of the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.

Non-Negotiable Preconditions

  • The announcement followed a consultation meeting organized by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) in the Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district.
  • The meeting was attended by the Kuki-Zo Council, which represents the political interests of the Kuki-Zo community.
  • Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet of the Kuki Zo Council outlined three critical preconditions:
    • 1. Restricted Movement: The movement of Meitei individuals in Kuki-Zo-dominated areas and vice versa should be strictly restricted.
    • 2. Ceasefire Duration: Hostilities must be halted for a minimum of six months to enable negotiations.
    • 3. Dialogue Process: A structured, formal, and meaningful dialogue process should be initiated during the ceasefire period.

Participation and Representation

The consultation meeting was attended by prominent leaders from various Kuki-Zo civil society organizations, including:

  • Kuki-Zo Council
  • Sadar Hills Chiefs Association
  • Kuki Inpi
  • Student bodies
  • Women’s organizations
  • Tribal representatives
