India's Military Strikes on Terror Camps

India's military has targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).

Operation Sindoor

  • The operation targeted nine locations linked to banned outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)

  • Established in March 2000 by Masood Azhar in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.
  • Responsible for major attacks:
    • Jammu and Kashmir Assembly car blast (October 2001).
    • Parliament attack (December 13, 2001) with LeT.
    • Pathankot airbase attack (January 2016).
    • Pulwama suicide bombing (February 14, 2019).
  • UNSC 1267 Committee listed Masood Azhar in May 2019.
  • Designated by the US as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and SDGT in 2001 and 2010 respectively.

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)

  • Founded by Hafiz Saeed, based in Muridke near Lahore.
  • Involved in:
    • October 2005 Delhi blasts (60+ killed).
    • July 2006 Mumbai train blasts (200+ killed).
    • 26/11 Mumbai attacks (166 killed).
    • Uri army base attack (19 soldiers killed) in September 2016.
  • Sanctioned by UNSC 1267 Committee in May 2005.
  • Hafiz Saeed listed as a terrorist in December 2008; designated SDGT by the US in May 2008.

Hizbul Mujahideen

  • Headquartered in PoJK’s Muzaffarabad, founded in 1989 by Muhammad Ahsan Dar.
  • Chief: Syed Salahuddin.
  • Operational mainly in Jammu and Kashmir, notably active in the 1990s.
  • Burhan Wani, a commander, was killed in 2016 by security forces.

These actions indicate India's firm stance on regional security against organizations posing threats to peace and stability in South Asia.
