India's Military Strikes on Terror Camps
India's military has targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).
Operation Sindoor
- The operation targeted nine locations linked to banned outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)
- Established in March 2000 by Masood Azhar in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.
- Responsible for major attacks:
- Jammu and Kashmir Assembly car blast (October 2001).
- Parliament attack (December 13, 2001) with LeT.
- Pathankot airbase attack (January 2016).
- Pulwama suicide bombing (February 14, 2019).
- UNSC 1267 Committee listed Masood Azhar in May 2019.
- Designated by the US as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and SDGT in 2001 and 2010 respectively.
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)
- Founded by Hafiz Saeed, based in Muridke near Lahore.
- Involved in:
- October 2005 Delhi blasts (60+ killed).
- July 2006 Mumbai train blasts (200+ killed).
- 26/11 Mumbai attacks (166 killed).
- Uri army base attack (19 soldiers killed) in September 2016.
- Sanctioned by UNSC 1267 Committee in May 2005.
- Hafiz Saeed listed as a terrorist in December 2008; designated SDGT by the US in May 2008.
Hizbul Mujahideen
- Headquartered in PoJK’s Muzaffarabad, founded in 1989 by Muhammad Ahsan Dar.
- Chief: Syed Salahuddin.
- Operational mainly in Jammu and Kashmir, notably active in the 1990s.
- Burhan Wani, a commander, was killed in 2016 by security forces.
These actions indicate India's firm stance on regional security against organizations posing threats to peace and stability in South Asia.
