Green Hydrogen Utilization and Export Plan
The government is formulating a strategy to track the utilization of green hydrogen and establish global partnerships for its export, as stated by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy at the CII International Business Conclave on Green Hydrogen.
Importance of Traceability
Emphasizing the significance of traceability in green hydrogen utilization, ministry highlighted the current challenge in distinguishing whether steel was produced using grey or green hydrogen after production is completed. Ensuring traceability and trackability is crucial for verifying green hydrogen usage.
Concessions and Trade Agreements
- Concessions for green hydrogen export are being considered in India's trade agreements.
- This aspect is significant for enhancing India's role in the global green hydrogen market.
Decarbonisation in the Steel Sector
The steel industry, responsible for approximately 10% of global emissions, is a primary focus for decarbonisation efforts. Discussions are ongoing with green hydrogen producers to identify, trace, and track products made with green hydrogen.
National Green Hydrogen Mission
- Launched in January 2023 with a financial outlay of ₹19,744 crore.
- Aims to position India as a global hub for the production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
- Targets a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
