India's Semiconductor Initiative
During his Independence Day address, the prime minister announced ambitious plans for India's semiconductor industry, emphasizing the availability of 'Made in India' semiconductor chips by 2025.
Current Semiconductor Projects
- Four new semiconductor assembly and testing plants have been approved under the India Semiconductor Mission.
- Two plants will be located in Odisha, and one each in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
- The Odisha plants include facilities by SiCSem Pvt Ltd and 3D Glass Solutions Inc.
- Other projects involve Advanced System in Package Technologies (Andhra Pradesh) and Continental Device (Punjab).
Call for Indigenous Technology Development
PM urged the youth to develop indigenous technology platforms, referencing India's success with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which handles over 50% of global real-time digital transactions. He encouraged developing platforms in the creative world and social media, questioning reliance on foreign technology.
