The Ministry of Power announced that as of September 30, 2025, India has surpassed the milestone of having 500 Gigawatt (Gw) in total power capacity.

  • Non-fossil fuel sources contribute 256.09 Gw, about 51% of the total.
  • Non-fossil sources include renewable energy, hydro, and nuclear power.

Achievements and Goals

India has achieved one of the major COP26 Panchamrit goals five years early, reaching 50% of installed electric power capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030.

  • Fossil fuel-based sources contribute 244.80 Gw, around 49% of total capacity.

  • Solar power capacity stands at 127.33 Gw.
  • Wind power contributes 53.12 Gw.
