CBSE New Curriculum Overview
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a revised curriculum to be implemented over the coming years. This curriculum aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.
Key Features
- Compulsory Third Language: From Class 6, a third language will be mandatory.
- Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI):
- An AI and CT course will be compulsory from Class 9 starting the 2027-28 academic session.
- First board examinations for these subjects will occur in 2029.
- Advanced Mathematics and Science:
- Optional advanced assessments introduced for Class 10.
- First cohort to sit for advanced-level assessments in 2028.
- Art and Physical Education:
- Made compulsory with new textbooks.
- Existing optional subjects may be discontinued.
Language Education Restructure
- Three-Language System:
- Languages taught at R1, R2, and R3 proficiency levels.
- R3-level textbooks to be introduced from Class 6 in the 2026-27 session.
- Expanded Language Offerings: Maithili, Santhali, Dogri, and Konkani added to the curriculum.
Implementation and Resources
- New textbooks for CT and AI are being prepared for Class 9 and will be available for the 2027-28 academic year.
- The Board plans phased implementation with new textbooks and courses over the coming years.
Assessment and Examination Changes
- Internal examinations will evaluate new compulsory subjects like art education and vocational studies.
- Advanced mathematics and science assessments will involve additional one-hour tests, with achievements recorded for scores above 50%.
