The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced a significant price increase for certain essential drugs due to rising production costs.

    • New Price: ₹90.74 per ml

  • Cisplatin
    • Previous Price: ₹7.26 per ml

Reasons for Price Increase

Producers of these drugs have been facing challenges due to a significant rise in the cost of raw materials like platinum, making production unviable.

  • Hospitals have reported shortages of these critical chemotherapy agents, which are under price control.

  • Anti-tetanus Immunoglobulin Vials
    • Prices of 250IU and 500IU vials increased by 50%.
    • Initiated by a review petition from the Serum Institute of India.

    • Price increases for BCG, Rubella, and measles vaccines.

Government Regulation

The NPPA invoked its extraordinary powers under Para 19 of the Drug Price Control Order, 2013, to approve these price hikes.
