India-Seychelles Bilateral Trade Agreements
India has signed 19 significant agreements with Seychelles, primarily aimed at enhancing bilateral trade in areas such as defence, maritime security, and infrastructure, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit.
Trade Relations
- Historically, India has maintained a trade surplus with Seychelles, with values ranging between $41 million and $79 million from FY19 to FY25.
- However, in FY26, India experienced a sharp trade deficit of $267 million, primarily due to increased imports.
Import Details
- The surge in imports was almost entirely due to aircraft and spacecraft imports, which constituted 96% of India's total imports from Seychelles.
- Other import categories included:
- Iron and steel at 1.8%
- Nuclear reactors at 0.2%
- Within the aircraft and spacecraft category, commercial airplanes and heavy aircraft exceeding 15,000 kg were predominant.
- Seychelles accounted for a minor share of India's imports of such aircraft compared to European countries in FY26.
