India's agriculture is highly vulnerable due to structural factors such as small landholdings and dependency on monsoon rains. Policy initiatives include:

  • National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA)
  • National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)

India generates significant agricultural waste that could be utilized for biochar production, potentially sequestering up to 376.11 megatonnes of CO₂-equivalent in soil and reducing emissions from agriculture.
