Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) - Sixth Unit Reactor Vessel Transportation

The VVER-1000 MWe reactor vessel for the sixth unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) is being transported to its construction site in Tirunelveli district, India. This reactor is built based on a Russian design.

Key Details of the Reactor Vessel

  • The reactor vessel weighs 320 tonnes and was manufactured at the Atommash plant, a division of Rosatom.
  • The vessel embarked on its journey to India on the eve of 2025, after being loaded onto a river vessel and transported to the seaport of Novorossiysk for a 6,000-mile (9,656 km) sea voyage.
  • A set of four steam generators for the reactor's sixth unit will also be shipped within the same year.
