Renewable Energy Contribution

Energy Consumption Per Capita
Per capita energy consumption rose by 25.4% from 14,682 megajoules per person in FY15 to 18,410 megajoules per person in FY24.
Coal and Energy Supply
- Coal: Remained the primary energy source, comprising nearly 79% of total domestic energy supply in FY24.
- The electricity sector was a major consumer, utilizing 69% of total coal consumption.
Energy Efficiency
- Energy intensity decreased, with 0.22 megajoules required per rupee of GDP in FY24 compared to 0.27 megajoules in FY15.
- This indicates enhanced energy efficiency across the economy.
Energy Imports
- Crude Oil: Import dependency increased to 88.9% in FY24 from 83.5% in FY15.
- Coal: Import dependency decreased to 25.9% in FY24 from 28.7% in FY15.
- Natural Gas: Import reliance rose sharply to 46.6% in FY24 from 35.6% in FY15.
