Global Roadshows for Production-Linked Incentive Scheme
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, along with industry stakeholders such as the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), is organizing global roadshows. These roadshows aim to engage potential investors and companies to participate in the ₹22,919 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for electronic components.
Target Countries for Roadshows
- South Korea
- Japan
- Taiwan
- United States
Objectives and Expectations
- The scheme intends to attract investments worth $6.94 billion.
- It aims to generate $53.3 billion in revenue over six years.
- It is designed to enhance the localization of electronic products and position India as an export hub.
State Government Involvement
The ICEA has requested state governments to provide additional incentives. States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat have been approached. Tamil Nadu has proposed matching the central-government incentive for PLI-eligible companies investing in the state.Preliminary Company Plans
Based on initial interest, industry associations estimate investments of ₹20,000 crore. Some companies have already announced their plans.
Scheme Coverage
- Electronic components such as PCBs, lithium-ion cells, enclosures for mobile and IT hardware products, and electro-mechanicals.
- Subassembly of display and camera modules.
- Incentives are linked to turnover or capital expenditure (capex).
National Production Goals
The PLI scheme is part of the government's strategy to achieve $500 billion in electronics production by 2030, with an export target of over $200 billion. This requires a nearly fourfold increase in production from FY24 levels. Currently, India's global share in electronics production exceeds 2%, compared to China's 60%.
Mega Outreach
- Planning roadshows in countries with vibrant electronics component sectors.
- Appealing to global investors to establish manufacturing bases in India.
- Identifying key companies for direct interactions about scheme benefits.
- Encouraging state governments to offer additional incentives beyond the PLI scheme.
