India's New Weapon: Bhargavastra
India has developed a powerful new weapon called 'Bhargavastra', designed to destroy enemy drones, particularly those flying in large groups or swarms. Created by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL), this system represents a significant advancement in protecting the nation from drone threats.
Successful Testing in Odisha
The system employs tiny rockets to neutralize drones. On May 13, three successful tests were conducted at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha. Two tests involved a single rocket each, and in the third, two rockets were launched within two seconds. All rockets successfully hit their targets, demonstrating the system's efficacy.
How 'Bhargavastra' Works
'Bhargavastra' can detect and destroy small drones from distances up to 2.5 km, functioning through two layers:
- First layer: Employs unguided micro-rockets to eliminate multiple drones simultaneously, with each rocket affecting a 20-meter radius.
- Second layer: Utilizes guided micro-missiles for precise targeting of specific drones.
The system can be equipped with jammers and spoofers to confuse enemy drones, providing an additional layer of protection.
Made for Indian Conditions
Bhargavastra is manufactured in India and functions efficiently across various terrains, including high mountains over 5,000 meters. It is adaptable for use by the Army, Air Force, and Navy, with customizable components like radars and shooters based on mission requirements.
Advanced Technology Inside
The system features a high-tech command and control center with:
- Radar capable of detecting tiny drones from 6 to 10 km away.
- Cameras and infrared sensors for tracking and identifying drones.
- A comprehensive battlefield view system aiding operators in rapid decision-making.
A Big Step for 'Make in India'
Experts highlight Bhargavastra as a unique system that many nations aspire to create. This low-cost, multi-layered drone defense system, developed and tested in India, stands as a testament to India's capability to produce world-class defense technologies independently.
