India-Fiji Bilateral Cooperation

India and Fiji are working towards strengthening their bilateral relations, focusing on defense and maritime security cooperation. During Fijian Prime Minister's visit to India, several key initiatives were unveiled.

Defense and Maritime Security Initiatives

• Creation of a Defense Attache post at the High Commission of India in Suva, covering the Pacific Islands.
• India's planned port call by an Indian naval ship to Fiji.
• Gifting of two sea ambulances to Fijian Military Forces.
• Establishment of a Cyber Security Training Cell in Fiji.
• Support for Fiji’s 'Ocean of Peace' initiative.

Strategic Partnership in the Indo-Pacific

• Commitment to a free, open, secure, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
• Collaboration on maritime security and regional stability.
• Focus on enhancing Fiji's maritime capabilities to handle security and natural disaster challenges.
• India's action plan in response to China's growing influence in the Pacific Islands.

Additional Areas of Cooperation

• Cooperation in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, military medicine, and white shipping information exchange.
• Capacity building for Fiji's military forces.
• Exchange of nine agreements and MoUs, including: 
  • Construction and operation of a super-speciality hospital in Fiji.
  • Supply of medicines under the Jan Aushadhi scheme.
  • Declaration of intent on migration and mobility.
