Relations between India and China have taken a positive turn since the meeting in Kazan. Prime Minister  emphasized the importance of mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity as the basis for advancing bilateral ties during his meeting with Chinese President.

  • The meeting took place ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, which is about 120 km from Beijing.
  • Special Representatives from both countries have reached an agreement on border management.
  • The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has resumed, and direct flights are being restarted.

PM's visit to China was also marked by the prospect of the SCO summit, indicating a focus on multilateral discussions.

Challenges and Future Steps

  • Despite efforts to repair ties, India discovered evidence of Chinese assistance to Pakistan's military, which affected relations.
  • The issue of de-escalation in eastern Ladakh remains, with an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 troops stationed on either side of the LAC in the region.
  • Both sides have agreed to move forward and address this challenging issue.
