Hailing from Athari Panchayat in Sitamarhi, Bihar, Raj grew up in a modest family near the India-Nepal border. He pursued a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad, where his academic excellence was evident.

After securing the 400th rank in GATE 2018, he worked in the energy sector and is currently an assistant manager at HPCL’s City Gas Distribution in Kolhapur. His technical background and professional experience honed his analytical skills, which he applied to UPSC preparation.
