  • Background of Women in Defence Force
    • In 1888, the role of women in the Indian army began in "Indian Military Nursing Service"
    • Army Act, 1950 prohibited the recruitment of females into the army.
    • In 1992, the Army, Air Force and Navy began inducted women as Short Service Commission (SSC) officers outside medical services.
    • In 2020, the Supreme Court passed landmark judgment (The Secretary, Ministry of Defence V. Babita Puniya & Ors.) to grant PC to women.
