Role of Space Sector in making India 'Vishwabandhu' 

  • Global Collaboration:NISAR is termed "India’s scientific handshake with the world", symbolizing international collaboration by adhering to global standards for docking and interoperability.
  • Open Data Access: Democratisation of data boosts global research, aiding especially developing nations
  • Tackling Global Challenges: Supports disaster management, agriculture, climate and hazard monitoring.
  • Global Commons: Establishes India as a knowledge contributor to shared scientific resources.
  • Diplomatic Leverage: Enhances India’s role in tech-sharing, capacity building & sustainable growth (e.g. NAVIC).
  • Tech Prowess at Low Cost: ISRO’s low-cost innovations showcase India’s ability to design and operate complex long-duration space systems.

Major Space Initiatives

  • NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) Mission: It is an Earth observation mission with roles in disaster management, climate monitoring, glacier tracking, and agriculture.
  • Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS): India plans to establish its own orbiting space station by 2035
  • Crewed Lunar Mission: An Indian astronaut is targeted to land on the Moon by 2040. 
  • Gaganyaan Program: It aims to send a human crew to Low Earth Orbit. A key test flight of the Crew Escape System and Vyommitra humanoid mission is planned for the same.
