key findings of the report
- Number of Teachers: Teachers exceeded 1.02 crore in 2025–26, marking an 8.3% increase over 2022–23.
- Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR): The current PTRs are 10 for Foundational, 12 for Preparatory, 17 for Middle, and 21 for Secondary levels.
- National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends a ratio of 30:1.
- Reduced Drop Out Rates: Dropout rates fell to 1.8% at the preparatory level (from 2.3%) and to 7.0% at the secondary level (from 8.2%) in 2025–26.
- Improved Student Retention Rate: Rising to 83.7 % and 51.9 % at the middle and secondary stages, respectively.
- Improved Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER): GER at the secondary level rose from 68.5% t in 2024-25 to 71.7 % in 2025-26.
- Improved Infrastructure: Number of schools with computer access, increasing from 64.7% in 2024-25 to 69.9% in 2025-26.
- In 2025-26, 95.0% of schools are powered with electricity, and 98.5% have girls’ toilets.
- Improved Female Representation: Women in 2025-26, comprising 54.9% of the total teaching workforce and girls’ enrolment reaching 48.4% in 2025-26.
- Gender Parity Index (GPI): GPImeasured as ratio of GER of girls to GER of boys stood at above 1 at all level indicating more proportionally higher participation of girls as compared to boys.
