New Delhi's Initiative for an E-Waste Eco Park
On June 10, 2025, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced the development of India's first electronic waste (e-waste) eco park in Holambi Kalan, North Delhi. This initiative marks a significant step in addressing e-waste management in the national capital.
Project Details
- The eco park will span 11.4 acres and is part of a public-private partnership (PPP) on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model for a concession period of 15 years.
- A global tender will be issued by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation to attract the "world’s best green technology partners" for the project.
- The park is designed to process up to 51,000 tonnes of e-waste, covering all 106 categories of waste as per the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Economic and Social Impact
- The facility is expected to generate over ₹350 crore in revenue.
- It aims to serve as a symbol of Delhi’s shift towards a circular economy, ensuring no resource is wasted and all workers are included.
Facility Features and Job Creation
- The eco park will include dedicated zones for dismantling, refurbishing, plastic recovery, and a second-hand electronics market.
- Skilling and training centers will be established to upskill informal workers involved in hazardous e-waste handling.
- More than a thousand 'green jobs' are expected to be created, integrating informal recyclers into a formal, safer, and technologically equipped ecosystem.
