Prime Minister's International Visits
Ghana (July 2-3)
This marks PM's first bilateral visit to Ghana, and notably, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades.
- President John Mahama: Elected in January, visited India in 2015 for the India-Africa Forum Summit.
- Economic Ties: Ghana is one of West Africa's fastest-growing economies with robust trade relations with India.
- Exports: India is the largest destination for Ghanaian exports, primarily gold, which accounts for over 70% of India's imports from Ghana.
- Discussions: Talks with President Mahama will focus on enhancing economic, energy, defence, and development cooperation.
Trinidad & Tobago (July 3-4)
Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian PM since 1999.
- Indian Diaspora: 40-45% of the Indian diaspora in the Caribbean lives in Trinidad and Tobago.
- Key Leaders: Both Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and President Christine Carla Kangaloo are of Indian origin.
- Significance: The visit marks 180 years of the arrival of Indian immigrants in Trinidad and Tobago.
- Economic Relations: Bilateral trade reached $341.61 million in FY 2024-25.
Argentina (July 4-5)
This visit marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years.
- Meeting with Javier Milei: Known as US President Donald Trump's "favourite President".
- Cooperation Areas: Defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, and energy.
- Trade: India was Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner in 2024, with significant imports of soybean and sunflower oil.
- Mineral Resources: Focus on lithium for India's green energy transition.
Brazil (July 5-8)
Modi will attend the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, followed by a State Visit.
- BRICS Summit Discussions: Topics include global governance reform, peace and security, multilateralism, AI use, climate action, and global health.
- Strategic Partnership: Bilateral discussions with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia on trade, defence, energy, and other areas.
- Trade: Brazil is India's largest trading partner in South America.
Namibia (July 9)
During his first visit to Namibia, Modi will engage in various diplomatic activities.
- Meetings: With President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressing the Parliament.
- Economic Growth: Bilateral trade has grown from less than $3 million in 2000 to almost $600 million.
- Investments: Indian companies are involved in mining, manufacturing, diamond processing, and services.
- Conservation Effort: Eight cheetahs were relocated to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh in September 2022.
