Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM)

- Objective:
- Promote inclusive farm mechanization to improve productivity, reduce labour drudgery and cultivation costs.
- Extend mechanization to small & marginal farmers, including women, SC/STs, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), SHGs, and rural entrepreneurs.
Key Features
- Financial Assistance: Subsidy for agricultural machinery through DBT (40% for general farmers; 50% for SC/ST, small & marginal farmers and NER beneficiaries).
- Small & marginal farmers receive ₹2,000/ha for mechanized services (including drones) through CHCs/FPOs/SHGs.
- Establishment of Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs), Farm Machinery Banks (FMBs) and Hi-Tech Equipment Hubs through financial assistance.
- Training, testing, demonstrations, post-harvest mechanization and crop residue management.
- North-Eastern Region: Enhanced support with up to 100% subsidy for small machinery and 95% support for FMBs.
- 30% of funds earmarked for women farmers.
- Promotes Kisan Drones (up to ₹10 lakh/drone for ICAR, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities; 75% grant for FPOs).
