
Government e Marketplace is a 100 percent Government owned Section 8 company setup under of Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for procurement of common use goods and services by government ministries, departments and CPSEs.
- A company is referred to as a "Section 8" company when it is registered as a non-profit organization (NPO), i.e., when it has motive of promoting arts, commerce, education, charity, protection of the environment, sports, science, research, social welfare, and religion.
Impact of GeM
- Nationwide digital procurement: It has created a network of around 1.37 lakh+ government buyers & ~25 lakh sellers.
- Transparency & Efficiency: Paperless workflows reduce delays, transaction costs and discretionary decision-making.
- Inclusive Public Procurement
- Women-led enterprises: 2.1 lakh+ registered women-led MSEs, securing ₹28,000 crore+, strengthening women’s participation.
- SC/ST enterprises: Procurement exceeded ₹6,000 crore, with nearly 28% annual growth.
- Boost to Startups: Procurement crossed ₹19,000 crore in 2025-26, recording over 36% annual growth.
