India's Support to Maldives

India is actively working to provide a line of credit to the Maldives, which may be finalized during Prime Minister of India's visit to the country on July 25-26. This visit coincides with the Maldives National Day and aligns with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy.

Infrastructure and Community Projects

• India has extended multiple lines of credit to Maldives in the past.
• The focus is on infrastructure and capacity-building projects funded by India.
• These projects cater to the developmental needs and priorities of the Maldivian communities and government.

Financial Assistance

• In May, India rolled over a $50 million treasury bill to support the Maldivian economy amid a debt crisis.
• Since March 2019, India has facilitated the subscription and annual rollover of treasury bills by the State Bank of India, interest-free.
• This arrangement is part of India's emergency financial assistance to the Maldives.
