Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI)

A nodal ministry of the Government of India responsible for the crucial functions of bringing out national statistics on various socio-economic aspects of the country and also for the release of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Mahalanobis Distance

A statistical measure used to determine the distance between a point and a distribution of points. It is a multivariate (multiple variable) generalization of the statistical concept of how far a point lies from a model.

Mahalanobis Plan

Also known as the Second Five Year Plan (1956-61), this economic development strategy was heavily influenced by P.C. Mahalanobis. It prioritized rapid industrialization, particularly in heavy industries, and the expansion of the public sector.
