SC Categorisation in Telangana

The meeting on Scheduled Caste (SC) categorisation was conducted on April 13, 2025, led by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister.

Implementation Date

The categorisation will come into effect on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary.

Government Order and Finalization

  • The government order for categorisation was finalized based on the one-man commission's recommendations led by Justice Shameem Akhter.
  • The order aimed to address the long-pending issue of categorising the SC communities.
  • The first copy of this order will be presented to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Basis for Categorisation

  • Categorisation of 59 sub-castes among SCs was based on their level of backwardness.

Details of the Categorised Groups

  • Group 1: 
    • Included 15 sub-castes - most backward, forming 3.288% of the population.
    • Received 1% reservation.
  • Group 2: 
    • Included 18 sub-castes - constituting 62.74% of the population, with marginal benefits.
    • Received 9% reservation.
  • Group 3: 
    • Included 26 sub-castes - relatively forward, forming 33.96% of the population.
    • Received 5% reservation.

Commission's Role

The commission conducted an in-depth study and considered over 8,600 representations regarding the status of these sub-castes.
