Political Features
- It is a territory occupying 140 square miles along Mediterranean Sea just northeast of the Sinai Peninsula.

- It is the smaller of the two Palestinian territories, the other being the West Bank, that make up the State of Palestine.
- In the 6-Day War of 1967, it was taken by Israel, which occupied the region for the next quarter century.
- In 1994, Israel began a phased transfer of governmental authority in the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority under the terms of the Oslo Accords.
