About Tatya Tope (1814 – 1859)
- He was a key leader of the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
- Key Contributions:
- Served under Nana Saheb, the adopted son of Peshwa Baji Rao II, and led major fighting at Kanpur.
- Fought alongside Rani Lakshmibai during the revolt in Jhansi.
- Took command of rebel forces at Gwalior, forced General Windham to retreat and defeated British forces at Kanpur in November 1857.
- Continued resistance through guerrilla warfare in central India after major battles.
- Was eventually captured, tried, and executed in 1859.
