The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the delays in approving resolution plans at NCLT benches. 

About NCLT

  • Constitution: A quasi-judicial body established under the Companies Act, 2013.
  • Role: Adjudicates disputes related to companies and corporate governance.
  • Insolvency authority: Functions as the adjudicating authority under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
  • Objectives:
    • To club every matter related to Companies under one roof.
    • To deal with the matters related to sick and distressed industries.
  • Appellate body: Appeals lie with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).
  • Further appeal: Decisions can be challenged in the Supreme Court on questions of law.

Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Sonowal from Assam will lead the BEA for the 2026-27 term.

  • The announcement came after the India BRICS Business Summit in Hyderabad, where the Hyderabad Declaration was signed to promote MSME growth and global cooperation.

About Peace Clause

  • Agreed at the WTO Ministerial Conference in Bali (2013) as an interim arrangement.
  • Allows developing countries to provide subsidies under public stockholding programmes for food security.
  • Protects such programmes from legal challenges in the WTO dispute settlement system, even if subsidy limits are exceeded.
  • Types of Agricultural Subsidies (WTO Classification)
    • Green Box: Non-trade distorting support such as research, infrastructure, environmental protection, and food security services; allowed without limits.
    • Amber Box: Trade-distorting support like MSP, price support, and input subsidies (fertilizers, electricity); 
      • Within 5% of the value of production and 10% in the case of developing countries.
    • Blue Box: Production-limiting subsidies given under programmes that restrict output.

India has expanded over 250% rise in DWR under Mission Mausam.

  • DWR uses the Doppler effect to measure the movement of raindrops and weather systems.
    • Doppler Effect is the change in the observed frequency or wavelength of a wave due to the relative motion between the source and the observer.

About Mission Mausam

  • Launched: In 2024.
  • Ministry: Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
  • Implementing Agency: India Meteorological Department (IMD), the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).
  • Budget: ₹2,000 crores over two years. 
  • Aim:
    • To make the nation ‘Weather Ready’ and ‘Climate Smart’.
    • To improve weather and climate services, ensuring timely and precise observation, modeling, and forecasting information for multiple sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, and rural development.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) launched its Vikram VT 21 project with two Advanced Armoured Platforms: wheeled and tracked. 

About Vikram VT 21

  • It has enhanced armour protection to withstand certain projectiles, blasts, and shrapnel plus which has improved mobility, integrated weapons and surveillance systems.
  • It offers STANAG Level 4 and 5 protection which are NATO-defined standards indicating resistance against heavy gunfire, explosions, and artillery fragments with modular blast and ballistic protection.
  • It is amphibious.
  • It is a potential solution for the Indian Army’s requirement of a Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle.

Airline body representing Indian carriers IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet has sent an SOS to the government, urging changes in the pricing formula for Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

About ATF/Jet Fuel

  • Primarily derived from crude oil, it is a specialized, colourless, kerosene-based petroleum distillate designed for gas-turbine engines in aircraft.
  • Types:  Jet A and Jet A-1, with Jet A-1 being the global standard due to its exceptional cold-weather performance.
  • Significance: Prevents static discharge, corrosion and microbial growth, ensuring safety and reliability even in the most demanding conditions at 35,000 feet.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) operationalises PaRRVA to boost Transparency and Investor Protection.

About PaRRVA

  • It is a new verification mechanism designed to authenticate past performance claims made by regulated market intermediaries.
  • It will function through a two-tier structure involving: A SEBI-registered credit rating agency serving as the PaRRVA and a recognised stock exchange acting as the PaRRVA Data Centre (PDC).
    • CARE Ratings Limited has been recognised as PaRRVAwhile National Stock Exchange of India will function as the PaRRVA Data Centre (PDC).

NCLAT

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal is a statutory body constituted under Section 410 of the Companies Act, 2013, to hear appeals against the orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

quasi-judicial body

An organization or entity that has the power to adjudicate on matters of law and to make binding decisions, but is not a court of law. They often have powers similar to those of a court, such as issuing subpoenas or holding hearings.

resolution plans

A plan submitted by a resolution applicant outlining how they propose to acquire and manage a company or an asset that is undergoing insolvency proceedings. The NCLT approves these plans after evaluating their viability and feasibility.
