Recently, Sahitya Akademi has announced Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025 in 24 Indian languages recognised by it.

  • Notable awardees include Navtej Sarna for the English novel Crimson Spring and Mamta Kalia for the Hindi memoir Jeete Jee Allahabad, among others.

About Sahitya Akademi

    • It is an autonomous body under Union Ministry of Culture.
  • It is India’s premier institution for literary promotion, dialogue, and publication, working across 24 Indian languages including English.
  • Establishment
    • Idea originated before independence (1944 proposal by Royal Asiatic Society).
    • Post-independence, Government of India took initiative under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
    • Formally established in 1952; inaugurated on 12 March 1954.
    • Registered as a society in 1956, designed as an autonomous institution despite being government-initiated.
